Located at 7th & 8th Streets adjacent to Maple Street, the Ireton Ballpark is home to Ireton’s Summer Rec teams and to the West Sioux High School girls’ softball team.
The highlight of the season at the Ireton Ballpark is the annual Bud Kemper PeeWee Tournament held the last weekend in June. The tournament was founded in 1969 by local sports enthusiast (and all-around good guy who would surely have been “Citizen of the Year” in more than one year), the late Floyd “Bud” Kemper and was later named in his honor.
The Ireton Booster Club sponsors the tournament. Gate proceeds are split between the Booster Club and Ireton’s Summer Rec program and used for upgrades to the ballpark and for supplies.
In 2017 a committee was formed and a $200,000 plus project was born transforming the park into a beautiful place to play ball. All of the money came from grants and donations. This was a joint effort with the City of Hawarden and Ireton, and the West Sioux School district The results are awesome and envied by neighboring communities.
Other events may be scheduled at the ballpark by contacting the City Administrator.
