Rachel and Charlie Mohning and family

On Wednesday, July 22, 2009, the Ireton Community hosted a benefit dinner, bake sale and auction to assist Rachel Mohning and her family with the costs of her medical treatment and other expenses.

Thank you to everyone who contributed in any way to the success of the benefit -- we cannot name everyone without risk of omitting someone so please just know that every contribution of money, auction items, baked goods, supplies, equipment, time and talent is greatly appreciated.

Rachel, the daughter of Bob and Mary (Haarsma) Eisma, was born in 1978 and grew up on the family farm northeast of Ireton. She attended the Ireton Christian Reformed Church, Ireton Christian School and Unity Christian High School graduating in 1997.  She married Charlie Mohning of Marcus/Le Mars in 1998.  They are the parents of Austin, Alyssa, April and Autumn.  They live in Boyden where the children attend Boyden-Hull Community schools and the family belongs to St. John Lutheran Church.  Rachel works at the hospital in Sheldon and Charlie is employed by Eisma Express.

Rachel has been diagnosed with Medullary Sponge Kidney Disease in which cysts form in the kidneys creating a sponge-like appearance.  Stones have been found in both kidneys and her left kidney is functioning at only 10%-20% of normal.  She has also been diagnosed with pulmonary embolism and deep vein thrombosis requiring blood thinners to minimize clotting.

Additional Funding provided by Sioux County Thrivent Financial and Modern Woodmen of America.
