Fire & Rescue

Fire Department and
Rescue Squad Facility located at the corners
of 4th and Elm Streets.
Fire Department
The
Ireton Volunteer Fire Department provides
fire protection services in the town of
Ireton and in the surrounding townships -
Reading, Washington, Center and Eagle in
Sioux County as well as several townships in
northern Plymouth County - a total of 102
square miles.
The
department has 25 firefighters, most of whom
have Fire Fighter I designations. In
addition to responding to fires and
accidents, the department participates in
controlled burns, continuing education
classes and conducts tornado awareness
drills at local schools.
Although the department receives tax dollars
that cover the basic operational costs most
of the "extras" are purchased through
donations. In recent years, the
department has purchased new bunker gear for
all members, as well as harnesses and
flashlights for the gear.
The
department's equipment includes a pumper
truck as well as 2200 gallon and 1000 gallon
tankers.
